Building the Beloved Community (BBC)

Chair: Cassandra Flipper (Elder)

BBC works to create a safe and supportive environment for exploring (a) our experiences with race and ethnicity, and (b) an understanding of how those experiences have been shaped by history and contemporary institutions.

Our mission is to build an inclusive community within and beyond this congregation based on Martin Luther King, Jr.’s vision of the Beloved Community. That vision is grounded in the affirmation that individuals of every race, color, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status are children of God. To that end we seek to live out our calling as followers of Christ in the interest of love and justice for all God’s children, reaching out to all people and welcoming all into this fellowship.

  1. We develop programs and activities, including opportunities for safe and candid dialogue that allow us to explore, understand and celebrate diversity.
  2. We make recommendations, subject to the approval of Session, regarding actions and policy developments or changes which will foster and nurture the Beloved Community.
  3. We usually meet monthly.

Planning team members are Earlyne Clift, Suzie Inadomi, Rich Jones, Rev. Bill Ng, and Kristin Stangl

Staff: Rev. Jack Shriver

Meetings: The first Tuesday of the month.
