Music is a an important part of the worship life at First Presbyterian Church of Oakland. Each week, Rev.  Chandler Stokes and our Music Director, Ron McKean, work together to plan Sunday worship. The scriptures and themes are carefully matched and planned; however, the Holy Spirit has the final say.  We choose music by the  great masters of classical music, renaissance, romantic, chant, contemporary, folk, and modern, world music, and African American Spirituals.

Choirs

We have a bell choir and a vocal choir. Made up of

members of this congregation, they perform on

Sundays, holiday concerts, and special services. The

choir is led by Ron McKean, our music director.

McKean often accompanies the choir on the

Rosales Organ, Opus 16 . The music includes

everything from Gospel to Handel.

Weekly Concerts
We are committed to providing concerts and events which reach out to our community. “Music for the Spirit” concerts are held
Wednesdays at 12:15 p.m. Ron McKean plays a variety of music by composers known worldwide. The concerts may also include invited guest musicians, and feature the Opus 16 Rosales Organ.  All concerts are free and we have lots of parking.  Please revisit the site for the April concert schedule.

Special Concerts

From time to time, we host special concerts featuring local artists. These performances include brass quintets and organ, string quartets, and vocal ensembles, contemporary music, and jazz.
