Who We Are
We are called to be Christ's partners in reconciliation, sharing the good news of God's radically inclusive, welcoming love.
As a More Light Presbyterian congregation, we strive to provide a welcome for LGBTQ people.
As a multicultural community, we are intentional about living as the Beloved Community.
As a multi-age family, we recognize the gifts children and youth bring to worship and community life.
This Week at First Church
Join us for Sunday Worship at 10:00 AM
Currently, we are inviting a series of guest preachers to share in our Sunday worship. This Sunday, June 24th, we welcome back Rev. Ernest Larkins, who will preach on Psalm 137:1-4. His sermon is entitled "Singing In a Strange Land." We also are thrilled to welcome back Joan Cifarelli as our guest pianist and worship accompanist.

6/26 - 7:00 PM: Women's Circle
Women's Circle returns for prayer and the practice of "lectio divina" (a meditative and prayerful holy reading of Scripture) in the Session Room. The circle is always open.
7/2 - 7:00 PM: SKRUK Concert (Norwegian Sunnmøre Choir)
As part of First Church Oakland's Arts Under the Spire program and in collaboration with Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, the Norwegian choir SKRUK will present an exciting international concert of choral music. First Church's beautiful neo-Gothic sanctuary is ideal for choral performance, and you won't want to miss this opportunity to see one of Europe's premier touring youth choirs perform in this space.
The concert series features the two choirs singing individually and together, in their program, "Roots." The project is based on the idea that despite cultural differences between the American and Norwegian west-coasts, the regions share spiritual roots. This Arts Under the Spire concert features SKRUK.
