Vukani Mawethu Concert
Sunday, March 7th 2010  2pm

Vukani Mawethu is a multi-racial, community-based, non-profit choir that sings freedom songs from Southern Africa, and gospel, labor and civil rights songs from the U.S. and around the world. Now in their 24th year, Vukani Mawethu recently returned from a month-long cultural and humanitarian tour of South Africa, Namibia and Mozambique, where they had a private meeting with Nelson Mandela, Graca Machel (his wife), and a long time friend Ahmed Kathrada. Besides doing several community concerts, they also sang for a number of orphanages, clinics, and schools where they gave out some $12,000 (R120, 000 in rand) to worthy grass roots groups and entities. The event is free, but a love offering will be received, and Vukani CDs, DVDs and colorful tees & sweats will be available. For further information, please visit www.vukani.com.
